No hope for Security Properties on Northgate South Lot: Several factors have thwarted plans of Security Properties to build a massive development on the South Lot of the mall. Though the company was open to exploring the daylighting of Thornton Creek, the devil was in the details. Northwest Hospital's new ER: A $6 million expansion of this community hospital is now a year old. The hospital plans to begin construction later this year on an 880-stall parking structure on the southwest corner of their property. Northgate/Maple Leaf housing values up 10.5% this year: According to a Seattle Times computer analysis of King County Assessor's data, the Northgate/Maple Leaf area has seen per square foot values rise this past year. The print article has graphs and lists our neighborhood among the top ten gainers in the county. The Seattle Times (01/27/02)

King County buying piece of South Lot: On 12/13/01, sources confirmed the rumor that King County has an offer on the table to buy the westernmost 3.9 acres of the South lot of Northgate Mall. Whether Simon is seriously considering other offers for parts or all of the remainder of the South lot is an open question.
